Jumeirah Golf Estates, Earth Course, Dubai, UAE

SEA ISLAND RESORT (SEASIDE)

As host of the annual DP World Tour Championship European Tour event, Jumeirah Golf Estates rivals the best golfing destinations in the world. The world class clubhouse boasts world class luxurious facilities, including dining and entertainment options, a swimming pool and changing rooms as well as a lounge and retail store.

The Earth Course is one of Jumeriah Golf Estates’ two championship golf courses. Measuring 7,706 yards from the championship tees, the Earth Course boasts 18 holes with spectacular views of white, graceful-through-deep bunkers. Each hole is designed to blend into the surrounding landscape, with the challenging 18th hole split up its entire length by a stunning creek

Sea Island’s Seaside course is a Tom Fazio re-design of the 1929 classic by famous golf course architects Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison. Golf great Bobby Jones described it as among the best nine holes he ever played. By tying the original Seaside with the old Marsh side course, Fazio, according to Davis Love III, transformed two nines from “18 holes that didn’t match into 18 matchless holes.”

Seaside is an ocean-side links course that combines its beautiful natural setting with a golf course that is both challenging and fun. The beautifully manicured fairways and greens are bordered by sweeping dunes mixed with native grasses, wildflowers, and bunkers. And the wind creates a different golf experience daily. Sea Island’s most dramatic layout, Seaside is routinely ranked among the top 100 courses in the United States. Along with the Plantation Course, it is the home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, a FedEx cup event hosted by Sea Island touring professional Davis Love III.

OUR PICKS

CHRISTIAAN BEZUIDENHOUT (RSA)- 33/1

The last time we backed him was back at the BMW at Wentworth he looked strong all week and ended up picking us up a 33/1 place in the end, not as good as our 250/1 place with Kiradech but we took it.

So this is really his first full season on the PGA Tour and I feel he is due a very good week before the end of 2021. He picked up three wins last year so well overdue a win for 2021. Coming back here to a place he loves should be his ticket to that great week he is owed.

Currently sitting in 46TH place on the race to Dubai he wants to close the gap and climb up the world rankings before the start of 2022.

Should be a solid bet for us here.

 DEAN BURMESTER (RSA) – 40/1

Coming in hot off a win at the PGA Championship we like Burmy’s chances here this week.

This has to be his best season on the European Tour by a long way he has played 23 events made 17 cuts a winner and five top ten’s. His prize money is around 750 thousand euros so far and I feel he breaks over the 800 thousand this week.

We followed a lot of his golf before he turned pro and certain plays adapt better to certain courses and golf played in Dubai and South Africa are quite similar hence his good results coming on these types of golf courses.  One of the longest off the tee here this week he should be setting up plenty of birdies and eagle chances and no one better on these greens than him.

 ADRI ARNAUS (SPA) – 50/1

I am really liking this guy more each time I see him play. I thought he should have won the Open de Espana, he had a great chance to pull out the win that week finishing in a runners up spot in the end.

He is another one of those players who just seems to be ticking all the right boxes for another solid week here.

It will be mainly down to the greens set up and pace this week and from what we have seen this should favour the man from Spain. Already showing a good putting stroke with the figures to back this up. The driver for me would be the only problem but around here the landing areas seem larger than most years before so that will also work in his favour.

It’s a great each way bet and if the putts drop over the weekend we all could be smiling.

EXTRAS

ALEXANDER BJORK (SWE) 100/1

MIN WOO LEE (AUS) 25/1

SCOTTIE SCHEFFIER (USA) 12/1

Top of my list is Scottie this week. Coming off the back of a great second place last week at the Houston Open.

We were with him at the Mayakoba a couple of weeks back, his Saturday’s round should have been more like 66 than 70 even then I do not think he would have won it but would have been close.

I was surprised he is yet to pick up a win on the PGA Tour, this will change and can see him getting a win really soon. He is playing some of his best stuff of late and expect another solid week here.

We have seen him out in practice and he looks up beat and this course is set up so well for him. Should be making plenty of birdies and could get the job done for us.

ALEX NOREN (SWE) 33/1

One of our favourite players to back has to be Alex. He has bagged us a bit of cash over the years and always puts on a strong show. Playing most of his golf over in the US lately and making a pretty good name for himself. Managed three top ten’s and eleven top twenty five places in 2021.

He has eleven career victories under his belt but still waiting for that first PGA Tour win. I feel over the next year or so he will be pushing into the top ten in the world rankings and a major victory could be on the cards.

His previous record here also suggests he should have a good week, he was 10th here in 2019 and then another top twenty here last year.

Watch this space could be going close this week.

HENRIK NORLANDER (SWE) 100/1

For some reason the Swedish players seem to love this place so am going for yet another player from Sweden in Henrik. He made the play-off here in 2016 with a total score of 265 where we saw five players complete in the knock out. Mackenzie Hughes won it that year.

We should be getting quite a bit of value for him this week as his 2021 results have not been that great. He started 2021 with a bag full of missed cuts but in between that he came close to winning the Farmers Insurance Open.

He is that sort of player that can blow up and miss cuts but that does not seem to be the case around here. He has bagged two top five places here in five years.

If he gets round one done low then we could be in for a great weekend
