The PGA TOUR returns to Minnesota next week for the second 3M Open – and just the second tournament during the Return to Golf that was in its original spot on the calendar this season.

Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and last year’s winner Matthew Wolff highlight the field, while Tommy Fleetwood returns to action.

Sam is coming into this week again trending in the right direction for me. Since his return he has played some great stuff and on the back of making three straight cuts.

24th at the Traveler’s, 30th at the Rocket and 17th at the Workday Open.

Sneaky long of the tee and sets up a lot of birdie chances and he has already bagged eight eagles this season already inside the top 25 stats on the PGA.

Off the tee he is solid averaging 311 yards, his driving accuracy is not the best reading but with only managing around 55% in his last three events he still was pretty high on the leader board.

This young Texas star has a bright future ahead of him, he only joined the PGA in 2019 so still very early days, but we feel he has plenty of wins to come.

Going 50/1 William Hill paying 8 places £5 EW bet.

Flying the flag for Mexico here this week is young Carlos. So much to like with this player ticks every box and plenty more for an Arnold designed course.

  • Lowest Round – 63
  • Scoring Average – 70
  • Birdie Average – 3.9
  • Total Birdies – 242

This could be the perfect week to gain his first PGA Tour title win. It has to happen sometime so why not this week. The team remember watching him at this event last year and was surprised how relaxed and at home he look on this course, he shot four rounds in the sixties with a closing 64 to finish in a tie for fifth place.

I feel another year on he has gained so much more knowledge of the tour, and should be buzzing to get back out there and play well again. He could be making plenty of birdies here and going very low.

To be totally honest I never really like to go with Lucas, but from what the team have advised me then I have made an exception this week. Still a top 100 in the world player, the one thing we should get out of him this week is a solid performance.

He has made five straight cuts with four top twenty five finishes, only last week with some of the toughest golf conditions we have seen for a while he still managed a top 40 place, but would like to forget his closing 78.

Major Winner in 2009 picking up the US Open, his last win was the Wells Fargo back in 2011.

The team noticed he seems to have a new look about him since the return, and as with many golfers in their older years he seems to have a more relaxed attitude to playing and practicing. This is why he could be a great fit this week. Probably one of the most experience in the field here to be honest.

Harris two time winner on the PGA Tour and what a season so far he is having. Coming off the back of a great week at the Memorial finishing off Sunday with a 72 which was pretty good reading when most were well over par.

Check out his best results this season:

Houston 4th – Mayakoba 5th – Waste Mang 16th – Honda Classic 17th – Arnold Palmer 9th – RBC 17th – Memorial 13th

So much to like and feel here this week and a must on any betting slip. Not many better in the field this week in hitting greens in regulation. Solid putter and makes a lot of good up and downs.

How is this guy still outside the top one hundred in the world, he has gone from 369th to 126th in the space of a year. He should carry this trend and can see him going to try and win his third PGA Tour title this week. Watch this space.

So my bigger value pick has to be Chesson this week, with not such a strong field he looked good to us out on the course and seemed to be holing every putt in practice. If I look at a few factors needed for this week they will mostly be:

Bent Grass Positive / Birdies per Round / Driving Acc/Dist / Par 4 Performance

All the above are a must around here, there are only two players in the field better than him on the stats page and they are Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau. So just based on value I like 125/1 compared to 10/1 and 14/1. Oh and Brooks Koepka at 12/1.

Winner already on the PGA Tour back in 2014. So he can get the job done if needed this week. Of course it’s a big punt but just like the each way bet here.

UK SWING ORDER OF MERIT

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.1″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”|700|||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″]

The UK Swing begins at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood at Close House, near Newcastle, from Wednesday July 22 to Saturday July 25, and will launch the European Tour’s Golf for Good initiative, which underpins all events for the remainder of the 2020 season. As part of the initiative, a mini order of merit will run for all six events in the UK Swing, with the top ten sharing an additional £250,000 to donate to charities of their choice.

Additionally ten spots in the 2020 U.S. Open Championship will be available for the highest placed finishers in the mini order of merit after the first five events.

The USGA has confirmed that the top 10 aggregate points earners in the mini order of merit that are otherwise not exempt at the conclusion of the fifth event – the Wales Open at Celtic Manor – will be exempt for the rescheduled U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club on September 17-20.

The traditional U.S. Open sectional qualifying events, including the European qualifier at Walton Heath in June, were cancelled this season following the upheaval in the global golf calendar due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, with the field now comprised entirely of exempt players.

COLT COURSE

Opened in 2011, the Lee Westwood Championship Colt course is set in almost 200 acres of beautiful Northumberland countryside. Designed by Scott Macpherson and named after English Golf Architect Harry Colt, the European Tour venue was voted one of the top 100 courses in the UK just one year after opening, and is the only course in North East to hold that accolade.

Lee Westwood has helped the team at Close House to improve the features of the Scott Macpherson designed Colt golf courses, adding new tees and bunkers. His experience of competing on the best courses around the world has allowed us to produce a golf course that will challenge all levels of golfer.

Connor looked a must pick from the team this week. With the European finally kicking off with a nearly full selection of players.

He ticks a lot of boxes and feel he has adjusted back into competitive golf with ease. We watched him at the Austrian Open and that opening round has so many shots for the highlight reel.

You will have to be straight around here this week, very tree lined we’ve managed to play this track a few times over the years. It is very gettable and should set up a lot of birdie chances, the one thing that will save this event becoming a silly low scoring four days will be the greens. Most of them are very undulating and it’s about hitting the right place on the green this week not just GIR but proximity to the hole will be a factor.

He is a good putter and should make his fair share this week. This would be a great chance for him to pinch a European Tour title against a much weaker field than he is used to.

Going for £5 EW bet 45/1 with SkyBet 6 places.

Going to throw our good friend in here this week. Already picked up a win for GBT in the past so already well in credit with us. I just feel wins and experience here will count for something come Sunday evening. He has been there and done it twice now on the European Tour so why not a third time.

He is a good straight driver of the ball, good greens in regulation. Another thing the team also pointed out that on Thursday the rain will start around 9am and be in all day until around 3pm, he is set to tee off just after 7am so should get the front nine in early with the nicer weather.

I feel he could set a great clubhouse target if he comes out the blocks and the putter is on fire early.

Last pick of the bunch came just in to be fair. He is another American who has some impressive pedigree. He has played five times on the European Tour this season and made four cuts and also managed a top ten and two top twenty five finishes. Added to that he only just missed the cut at the Qatar Masters in March.

So what do I like and what boxes does he tick coming in here?

  • Bogey Avoidance
  • Birdie Performance
  • Driving Accuracy
  • Par 5 and Par 3 scoring
  • Greens in Regulation
  • Scrambling

The weather draw will play its part on Thursday’s opening round tee times that is for sure. As it stands at the moment he will play most of the round with hardly any chance of rain, the greens will be soft and can go pin hunting, and will just be a fun time to go attacking scores.

This boy has game. Played a lot of his golf over in Asia and Japan. He has been a pro since 2011 so building up a good CV across various tours. He is good friends with Peter Uihlein and decided to follow in his footsteps and join the Challenge Tour where he managed a 9th place finish in 2013.

He won the US Junior Amateur Championship in 2004 following the likes of Tiger Woods, David Duval and Hunter Mahan. I feel we still have a lot to look forward to regarding his future performances and feel that win is not that far away.

It could be too much for him to win but he could be a good value EW bet with BetFred this week paying 10 places at 125/1 £2 EW.
