3M OPEN
CAZOO CLASSIC
The 3M Open is a professional golf tournament in Minnesota on the PGA Tour, held at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, a suburb north of Minneapolis. Announced by the PGA Tour in June 2018, the tournament debuted in 2019 on July 4–7. Minnesota-based company 3M is the title sponsor of the event.
It succeeded the 3M Championship, a PGA Tour Champions event for 26 years (1993–2018), held at TPC Twin Cities since 2001.
TPC TWIN CITIES
TPC Twin Cities is a private golf club in the north central United States, located within the subdivision of Deacon’s Walk in Blaine, Minnesota, a suburb north of Minneapolis.
Opened in 2000, the 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer in consultation with Tom Lehman; it is a member of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour. Since 2001, it has hosted the 3M Championship on the PGA Tour Champions. On June 18, 2018, it was announced that the 3M Championship would end after 2018, and be replaced by the 3M Open, a PGA Tour event starting in 2019.
Innovative design and a reverence for nature are the hallmarks of truly great golf courses, and TPC Twin Cities’ outstanding championship golf course is no exception.
Honoured multiple times by Golf Digest magazine among the top 20 golf courses in Minnesota, TPC Twin Cities’ par-72, 7,468-yard championship golf course was designed by legendary golfer and golf course architect Arnold Palmer to blend seamlessly with the natural rolling terrain on the site of a former sod farm 15 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Collaborating with PGA TOUR player consultant and Minnesota native Tom Lehman, Palmer sculpted a serene masterpiece featuring Bent grass tees, fairways and greens, native prairie grasses, picturesque wetlands and 27 bodies of water, all framed by stately stands of mature oak, spruce and pine trees. After the competitive enhancement project in 2018, the course will play as a par 71 for the PGA TOUR players this week.
Palmer’s signature beach bunker on the 7th hole, elevated greens and four expansive native area bunkers add to the unique character and strategic diversity of the course, which many TOUR players consider the best layout and conditioned course on PGA TOUR. While challenging enough for the best players in the world during the 3M Open, multiple tees on each hole enable golfers of all abilities to enjoy the subtle nuances and intricate design features that have earned Palmer acclaim as one of the world’s most respected golf course architects.

The English Open is a professional golf tournament that is held in England. First played in 1988, it was an annual event on the European Tour until 2002. After several aborted attempts at reviving the tournament, it returned to the tour schedule in 2021, when it was titled as the Cazoo Classic.
Winners of the tournament include some of the most successful players in European Tour history including Mark James, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke. James and Clarke are the only two players to have won the title more than once.
HILLSIDE GC
Hillside Golf Club is a golf club located in Southport, England. The club was founded in 1911. Classed as a “links” course, because of the type of vegetation and geography, it runs over 18 holes and about 7,000 yards, all the holes being between and on mainly large dunes and local indigenous pinewoods, typical of the immediate coastal area. The second group of nine holes, the “back nine” is often thought by professional golfers to be quite challenging. The club has hosted, in its history, a number of UK championships, and also including qualifying rounds for the Open.
It is physically close to both the Royal Birkdale Golf Club, near its south-western boundaries, and to the Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club, somewhat to the south of it.

SAHITH THEEGALA 25/1
Top of the list for the 3M Open has to be Theegala. The team were very impressed with him at the Open last week. He started so strong with rounds of 69-68 but fell away on the Saturday but then seemed to get his grove back on Sunday.
We were also with his group at the Travelers where he was pipped by a very on form Xander that week. Plenty to like right now and with a weaker field here he should feature, of course the odds will be effected here but I could not leave him out.
His off the tee performance over the past few events have improved so we are liking that for this course. He is also a very good Bent-grass putter so should be making plenty out there this week we reckon.
A banker bet for the week.
CAMERON DAVIS 25/1
I know another Aussie and another Cameron, well it worked well for us last week didn’t it.
Playing very well coming into this week. Top ten at the Charles Schwab then another a few weeks back at the John Deere Classic and a few of the team were also at the Barracuda last week and saw plenty of positives for another good week.
I have gone through his check list and ticked off a number of aspects of his game that will suit around here. One stat that did stand out for me was his eagles he has already managed 12 from 1188 holes which ranks inside the top ten on the PGA Tour. This could be a factor by the end of the week let’s keep a count of how many he can make this week.
If you have not heard too much about Maverick then you should have. Check out some of his best results for 2022 already.
- Genesis – 7TH
- John Deere – 8TH
- Scottish Open – 16TH
- Barracuda – 9TH
So that’s two top ten’s in his last five events which is pretty impressive. Still yet to win on the PGA Tour but feel this course and set up should be to his liking. Very good putter and we know by doing are own stats from the Scottish Open that he has averaged around one and a half strokes gained on the field over the past three events WOW
He will be making plenty of birdies this week and should have another great week.
OTHERS SHORT LISTED
CAMERON TRINGALE 33/1
NICK HARDY 40/1 WH 8PL
RICHIE RAMSEY 25/1
Liking this bet here this week with Richie, I feel if he had made it to the Open this year he would have enjoyed himself as the course was playing to his liking after chatting to him yesterday.
But he was here early and ready to go. We followed quite a lot of his golf this season and were with him a lot at the Betfred British Masters where he had a great week finishing in a tie for third.
Two main factors to playing in scoring well at Hillside is driving accuracy and greens in regulation he ticks both these with ease. The putter will need to get a bit hotter but the way he has been trending it could be his week on the greens.
Good bet here one to watch.
DALE WHITNELL 80/1
Bit of a hit and miss player is Dale. He seems to play some of his best stuff back over in the UK so think he should do well here.
He is yet to break through on the DP World Tour but feel this will happen soon. He got the win at the KPMG Trophy on the Challenge Tour in 2019 and looks to be playing better then he was then. Two top five’s in 2020 and 2021 one at the Irish Open and the other at the British Masters.
Another course he has a good record on has been the Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus, this is also another course that has the options of various teeing options so it shows he can adapt to any playing conditions when needed and still play well.
On the down side he has missed plenty of cuts so let’s hope he comes out strong and makes the cut for us this week then who knows.
SAMI VALIMAKI 40/1
We were with Sami’s group at the Scottish open this year and boy was he looking good. Probably why he is one of the favourites here this week, I mean let’s face it that was one of the strongest fields this year the Scottish Open has seen and closed with a 66 to finish in a tie for 24TH. We counted on the Friday and Saturdays rounds he missed around seven putts from inside eight feet which is very unlike him so overdue a better week on the greens here for sure.
As I said this course will demand straight driving but distance will also be a factor and he ranks 34TH for driving distance on the DP World Tour and also his scrambling is pretty good as well so again if the putter gets hot we will be looking good come Sunday evening.
