MYRTLE BEACH

The Wells Fargo Championship is a professional golf tournament in North Carolina on the PGA Tour. Held in early May at the Quail Hollow Club. it has attracted some of the top players on the tour. It debuted in 2003 as the Wachovia Championship and was known in 2009 and 2010 as the Quail Hollow Championship. In 2017, the tournament offered a $7.5 million purse with a winner’s share of $1.35 million.

From 2004–06 and 2011–13, the tournament ended in a playoff. Additionally, the event has one of the tougher finishes on tour with 16, 17, and 18, commonly known as the “Green Mile,” often ranked among the PGA Tour’s toughest holes. Organized by Champions for Education, Inc. the majority of the charitable proceeds from the tournament benefit Teach for America.

In 2017, the tournament was held on the coast in Wilmington at Eagle Point Golf Club, as Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Championship in mid-August. Wilmington hosted the Azalea Open on tour in the 1950s and 1960s at the Donald Ross-designed Cape Fear Country Club; it was a tune-up event for The Masters through 1965, part of the city’s Azalea Festival.

In 2022, the tournament will be held near Washington, D.C. at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland, as Quail Hollow is scheduled to host the Presidents Cup in late September.

Decades earlier, Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Tour’s Kemper Open eleven times, from 1969 through 1979.

QUAIL HOLLOW

The 18-hole championship course at Quail Hollow was designed by golf course architect George Cobb who designed several golf courses, primarily in the south-eastern United States. Opened on June 3, 1961, it underwent a series of improvements, including modifications of several holes by Arnold Palmer in 1986, and a redesign by Tom Fazio in 1997, 2003, and from 2014 to 2016 in preparation for the PGA Championship. South of central Charlotte, the average elevation of the course is approximately 600 feet (185 m) above sea level. The course is part of an extensive housing development.

PGA FIRST EVENT
OUR PICKS
COREY CONNERS 55/1

Been on our lists a lot in 2024 already and feel he could be having another great week here.

With one Canadian winning last week he could be following suit this week at a course he fits perfectly.

One of the key stats form us this week will be Proximity to hole and he ranks inside the top twenty on the PGA, also approach shots from over 200 yards will feature and once again he ranks inside the top ten.

With two wins already under his belt at the Texas open in 2019 and 2023. He should have a good week and one to watch.

MATT FITZPATRICK 33/1

Matt is due a good result for us after tipping him for the US Open two years ago he is ready to get that winning feeling again here this week.

He is playing well and getting that putter back into the grove again.

Fifth place at the Players, top ten at the Texas open and another good show at the Masters.

Driving the ball solid around here is key to giving yourself a chance to shoot low, we set up track man on his practice round at a few par 4’s and par 5’s and we were very impressed.

He ticks all the boxes this week to again get yet another PGA Tour win so watch this space!!

ADAM SCHENK 80/1

80/1 really thanks bookies.

Wow we have got lucky here with Adam, ok so let’s see his previous results coming in shall we:

  • PLAYERS – 19TH
  • TEXAS OPEN – 5TH
  • MASTERS – 12TH
  • CJ CUP – 13TH

Known as a Bermuda/Poa type player and also a lover of Fazio type golf courses it’s a win win for his game and set up here this week.

Also a long course specialist and a solid ball striker when it comes to wind play so he could be just the ticket we are looking for to get us over that winning line for 2024.

Official ranked inside the worlds top 50 now this year and plenty more to come. This guy will be winning in 2024 and this course could be one of his best chances.

OTHERS ON THE LIST
MATT PAVON 100/1
KURT KITAYAMA 80/1
PATTON KIZZIRE 80/1

Patton goes in for us here. He was on our radar way back earlier this year.

He had a great Sony then fell off the radar going on a horrid run of missed cuts.

That run has no changed and from what we have seen of his golf over the last two events have been plenty of positives.

He is striking it very well and ticks all the boxes to go low around here this week one to watch for sure.

HENRIK NORLANDER 100/1

Back with our good friend and Swede Henrik this week. He has been looking good in 2024 with some impressive results at the Mexico Open and also the Puerto Rico Open.

With a much weaker field this week I feel he goes close to winning it here.

Boxes he ticks coming in:

  • SG – Off the Tee
  • Bermuda Positive
  • Rees Jones Positive
  • Going for Green
  • Par 4 Scoring

Will feature I also like a top 20 bet here

GREYSON SIGG 50/1

This is the team’s big chance for the week.  He was on all of our reports back from the practice rounds and driving range/short game areas.

In fact we noticed he was here early this week as missing the cut at the CJ Cup, so is well adjusted to the set up here and he is ready to go low.

He has had two top ten’s in his last three starts and feel he will carry on that trend here.

Solid tee to green and on the PGA Tour stats he ranks fifth for bogey avoidance.

Our nap to watch this week.
