QATAR MASTERS

The Qatar Masters is a European Tour golf tournament held at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar. When founded in 1998, it was one of two European Tour events to be staged in the Arabian Peninsula, but is currently one of six. From 2005 to 2007 the tournament was co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour.

The tournament had modest fields in its early years, but with the aid of “promotional” money paid to top golfers to appear, and being scheduled within a three-week period that included events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, it developed to have one of the European Tour’s strongest fields.

In 2018, due to travel restrictions between the UAE and Qatar as a result of the ongoing diplomatic dispute in the Arab World, it was moved to later in the year, and is no longer held at the same time as the Abu Dhabi and Dubai events. The date change coincided with a reduction in prize money, and resulted in a lower field strength than previous editions.

DOHA GOLF CLUB

The Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar is an 18-hole, 7,374-yard, par 72 championship course that was designed by Peter Harradine. The Doha Golf Club is also one of the first grass golf course ever built in the Middle East. Open to non-members, it has a 2 808 yards long floodlit nine-hole academy course, and a clubhouse with three restaurants and a golf shop.
The club hosts the Qatar Masters golf tournament.
The Doha Golf Club was designed with eight strategically positioned lakes, 65 giant cacti which were imported from the deserts of Arizona, more than 10 000 green trees and shrubs, numerous limestone formations and an abundance of lush and lengthy fairways, which were all designed to present a startling contrast to the desert that surrounds this green golf club.

TRENDS AND KEY FACTORS LIVE
  • Long Hitters Paradise
  • Even if you are spraying your drives and missing the landing areas and rough is minimal.
  • Wind will get up this week. So look for controlled ball strikers
  • High Scrambling has been key to previous winners here.
  • Bogey avoidance will also factor
  • Tough Par 3’s, look for strong mid iron players.
  • Previous winners here, have had a top ten finish within their last four previous events, barring Eddie Pep in 2018.

OUR PICKS
YANNIK PAUL 28/1

I am going back to Yannik last time I backed him was at the Espana Open where he missed the cut.

That was just our luck I feel that week as we all know his previous results were pretty special and expected a much better performance from him that week.

Sometimes in this game you just have an off round or week and it just happened when we backed him.

This course and its set up again should fit his skill set and he should be a main contender. Some of the facts we pulled out fit for playing well around here:

  • Driving Distance
  • GIR – 66.55% DP World
  • Bogey Avoidance

Come on do this for us Paul.

ADRIEN SADDIER 80/1

Taking a bit of a risk here with Adrien in fact I cannot ever remember backing him over the years.

This tip came in hot yesterday from our US team and who were with his group at the Barbasol Championship this year. He came so close to winning it that week only missing out by one shot in the end by Vincent Norrman.

Plenty to like here so he seems to have a mix bag when it comes to events week on week, but this trend could be changing and we could see him have a real go at winning this.

Here are his latest events coming in from the Barbasol: 3-MC-MC-13-MC-16-WD

The withdrawal from the Alfred Dunhill was his last event. We are not that worried about that and from what we have seen of him here this week he looks ready to do battle.

The French man to watch this week!!!!

CHASE HANNA 80/1

We know that the some Americans play well on the DP World Tour over the years and feel that Chase could be that US quality we have been looking for.

Veerman was also on our team’s short list but we felt after gathering info and recent form suggests Chase wins our vote. He is a form based player and when he normally shows some form he keeps that run going so after we checked out his game last week whilst in Spain we feel this could be just the course and place for him to do the bizo.

His stats have improved yearly and he is now grown into a winning player and feel this course and set up from what we have seen over practice is one he could win for sure.

MATT JORDAN 66/1

Could be another player going under the radar here this week. Funny enough the last time we spoke to his team was at the Open this year where he had a great week finishing in the top ten.

This weeks set up and course will have a lot of similar factors to the Open course set up which might sound strange but forget where we are playing it’s based on landing areas run offs around the greens and bogey avoidance which he seems to master pretty well when is game is on.

Coming into this week on form could be the one for us.

JEFF WINTER 80/1

We are also flying the flag for Demark this week supporting Jeff Winter.

Recent form:

  • Open de France – 2ND
  • Dunhill Links – 10TH
  • Andalucia Masters – 6TH

Pretty impressive coming in and boy does he look good out in practice this week. This guy is a putting master class we saw him drain 40 from 40 putts using a putting drill from 20 feet yesterday on the practice green. WOW!!

Take these odds and run.

MIKE LORENZO VERA 66/1

Another player who was hot on our list this week was Mike. Ninth place in Madrid a couple of weeks ago, he is bound to win soon and this place could be just the ticket and right up his alley.
