Consistently ranked as the #1 golf course in Hawaii, playing The Plantation Course is sure to be on every golfer’s bucket list. Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the course was designed on a grand scale in keeping with its location on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains and offers dramatic ocean views from virtually every hole. Its lengthy 7,411 yard par 73 layout challenges the pros but it’s wide fairways and generous greens make it very playable for the average golfer.  With dramatic elevation changes, this course offers plenty of downhill tee shots. You’ll feel like one of the pros when – with the aid of  the aggressive slope of the 18th fairway – you will enjoy hitting one of the longest drives of your life.

The Plantation Course is the site of the PGA TOUR’s Sentry Tournament of Champions each January featuring an elite field of previous year’s PGA TOUR winners. The field has included golf greats such as Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Justin Leonard, Ernie Els, Davis Love III and many more. The course record is set at 62 and tied between K.J. Choi (2003), Graeme McDowell (2011), Chris Kirk (2015), Jason Day (2015) and Xander Schauffele in his final round in winning the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Going to throw in Lanto again to kick off the new year, after all he won us a fair bit of cash in 2019. Early reports back from the team already showed us some very good positives. The putter is on fire and it will have to be this week with some very large greens it will be all about 3 putt avoidance.

He is looking solid in practice and the driver is looking good. He makes a ton of eagles and birdies and should enjoy the wide fairways here. I just feel at this price and already picking up his first PGA tour title, he could add a few more in 2020.

He should go well and enjoy this course.

You have to love Ryan here this week for another value pick. His last three events on the PGA Tour:

  • CJ CUP – 12th
  • ZOZO – 10th
  • QBE – 3rd

I know the QBE was not a full stroke event but still a great performance never the less. Ticks all the boxes needed around here, tee to green solid greens in regulation always good. The main factor for me is his approach putting performance with greens this large he is best in the field this week only Matt Kuchar matches him

This guy’s iron play is second to none. The team walked with him in practice this week on the back nine and were very impressed with his overall play.

You can see why he sits in first place on the PGA Tour for Greens in regulation.

Another player showing some really good form. He has managed five top twenty finishes in his past five outings to finish off 2019.

Also, there is on one better off the tee than Corey this week, he sits in first place on the PGA Tour. If the putter warms up, he could be dangerous

80/1 I reckon the bookies have missed a trick here and might still be celebrating the festive period. His last event was the RSM Classic and what a performance he put on there, shooting 67-63-66-68 finishing up at eighteen under par, in third place.

Key factors that stick out for me regards a course fit are:

  • Approach to the Green – 6th
  • Tee to Green – 3rd
  • Eagles – 1st
  • Scoring Average – 7th
  • Scrambling from the rough – 7th

My only real concern would be the putter, but if he can get this working early doors then who knows it could a great chance for him to collect his second PGA Tour title.

This track just shouts out Gary Woodland. Everything about the set up here is right up Gary’s alley. And there is no one around these level of odds with a better results record coming into this week.

  • The CJ Cup – 3rd
  • ZOZO – 5th
  • Hero – 7th

The US Open champion will be looking to get his 2020 off to a flyer. He had four rounds in the sixties here last year to finish a runner up. I feel he can go one better and at 16’s he is one of the best picks under twenty to one. Of course, it will also set up well for Jon Rahm and DJ, but the odds are far too low for me.
