International golf will make its comeback in Lower Austria in July 2020.

After a five-month break due to the global outbreak of the corona virus, the European Tour Season 2020 will continue with two tournaments in Austria. The two events are part of both the European and Challenge Tour.

The Austrian Open will go from Thursday 9 to Sunday, 12 July at the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg across the stage, while the EURAM Bank Open will take place on its original date in GC Adamstal.

The fact that this sensational and very positive development came about is due to the fact that many people in the Corona break were responsible for helping to bring this project to fruition. The top representatives of the European and the Challenge Tour, the local golf association, political representatives of the state of Austria, the sports region of Lower Austria as well as the leaders of the two golf clubs in Atzenbrugg and in Adamstal were involved.

Austria was not only very successful in combating the pandemic, it also took on a pioneering role on the way back to everyday sport. Of course, the economic added value is very important for golf, and the two tournaments in the sporting region of Lower Austria are encouragingly moving.

Jamie Hodges, Head of the Challenge Tour , said: “We are looking forward to the resumption of the Challenge Tour season together with the Austrian Open in the Diamond Country Club and the EURAM Bank Open at the GC Adamstal. These are two events with double ranking, which will take place in July 2020 consecutive weeks. “

“Especially in such exceptionally difficult times, it is a great sign and also a deserved success for Austrian golf that the European Tour starts the 2020 season with two high-level tournaments in Austria after the mandatory break. It has not been easy in the past few weeks under some time pressure, but the preparatory cooperation with the European Tour and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Sport was exceptionally good and successful. We are very much looking forward to the tournaments and the GC Adamstal, the Diamond Country Club and the Österr. As always, the Golf Association will be perfect hosts and European tour partners. ” Christian Guzy, Diamond Country Club

The Diamond CC is picture perfect placed near Vienna, a Jeremy Pern designed course.

Par 72 – 7458 Yards – Fairways Poa/Rye – Greens

Lots of water here so accuracy will be key, good iron play will be a must and distance control. The team love coming back here and you can see why. Hosts some of the best putting greens on the tour calendar so no excuses for a missed four footer here.   So what else we looking for GIR a must, long and straight off the tee could make this place a birdie feast.

Could be another week for a flying Fin to follow in Mikko’s footsteps from a couple of years ago.

Already a winner in 2020 on the European Tour so in some great form pre lockdown. He also ticks a lot for me and the team here this week.

I also feel that Taylor Made turned the corner last year are steadily starting to overtake Callaway in overall performance wins. Since he has moved to the TM SIM Driver his stats have improved and with his wedges as well.

He has led the field in strokes gained and strokes gained putting a number of times in his fairly short career. We could be in for a great feeling watching this lad over the week. On your marks get set Finland for a party.

This boy from Kansas his got game. He reminds me a bit like when Peter Uihlein made his appearance on the European Tour and what a start he made.

Joined the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019 so still finding his feet. His best performance in 2019 was at the Puerto Plata Open where he closed with a 65 shooting eight birdies an eagle and two bogeys to end up in a tie for tenth place.

Not to be cruel to the European Tour but this week’s field is pretty average and most of these golfers could not even challenge on the Korn Ferry tour. So for me is and should be respected a lot higher than a 350/1 outsider.

So why did I put him ahead of many others this week?

From what I have gathered from my resources, here are the key factors why Chase goes in:

  • Top ten for bogey avoidance
  • Inside the top ten for Driving distance and Accuracy
  • High greens in regulation
  • Par 3 Performance good
  • Great putter and very good scrambling

Ticks everything you need to play and score well around here.

At this price yes admitted a big gamble but still think he is worth a £3 EW bet here this week.

Robin has been catching the eye with us for a while now. Turning Professional in 2016 with a handicap of plus three. Already with two top ten’s in his last five events on the European Tour, I believe it will not be long before he picks up his first win.

Solid overall game to suit it around here as well. Great driver of the ball along with a good putting average this place if you’re as pure a ball striker on the greens as Robin he could be making a lot of birdies.

Winner on the challenge tour back in August 2017 so knows how to get the win if in contention, plus that was played on a much harder course in Northern Ireland.

Not much else to say apart from going to bet £5 EW with William Hill paying 6 Places at 80/1.

Two golf courses are located within Muirfield Village: The Country Club at Muirfield, which also has tennis and swimming, and the signature Muirfield Village Golf Club, where the Memorial Tournament is held annually. MVGC has also hosted several national championships and international team competitions, including the 1992 U.S. Amateur, 1987 Ryder Cup, the 1998 Solheim Cup, the 1986 U.S. Junior Amateur and the 2013 Presidents Cup. It and The Greenbrier in West Virginia, are the only two places to have hosted both the Ryder and Solheim Cups. When asked whether he would be interested in captaining the U.S. squad in the matches on his home course, Jack Nicklaus responded that although he would enjoy it, he believes captains should be more “current” with the players on the team.

Muirfield Village is controlled by Nicklaus, and each fall he makes changes to the course in order to accommodate new technology, make the course more enjoyable for members and tournament spectators, or simply offer a tougher test for the pros. In recent years changes have included lengthening several holes, including the first, tenth, twelfth, and seventeenth, adding bunkers, particularly at the tenth and seventeenth, and rerouting a stream on the eighteenth hole. In 2013, the eighteenth hole was lengthened by 40 yards. He also recently made changes to the clubhouse and driving range. He added several suites overlooking the 18th hole and completely remodelled the inside of the clubhouse and renovated the exterior as well in 2014, Golf Digest rated Muirfield Village as the number one golf course in Ohio.

Also, Muirfield Village was recently ranked 14th in the United States by Golf Digest. In 2014, the first-ever world’s 100 greatest golf courses by Golf Digest ranked Muirfield Village 53rd.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.9″ text_font=”|700|||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ border_width_all=”1px”]

The course that we are used to seeing at Muirfield Village will be slightly different this week. The team have been out walking it and the rough is all together not very penal as when the Memorial will take place in a weeks’ time.  Three holes have also been changed and made longer including two par fives and a par three.

Greens in regulation and good distance to hole stats will have to be very high this week. Key stats we have gathered from previous winning averages were:

  • Proximity to Hole – 12th
  • Scrambling – 11th
  • Putts per GIR – 15th
  • Greens in Regulation – 11th

Varied amount of winners here all a vast amount of set skills so will still be a wide open event.

Love the way Adam has been trending leading into this event, full of confidence coming of a great week last at the Rocket Mortgage to end up in a tie for fourth place at sixteen under par.

Greens in regulation play has been pretty impressive over his last three outings, 75% at the Charles, 76.39% at the RBC and then last week 84.72%. Strokes gained putter has been ok around a half a shot picked up on the field. Another thing the team pointed out was a good par four scorer will be near the top here this week and his last three events combined he has scored eighteen under par.

A world top class player looking to break into the world’s top fifty and could well do that after this week.

I feel this a no brainer for me to play Rickie here this week at odds of over 25/1 everywhere.  Coming off the back of a great Rocket Mortgage Classic think the bookies have missed the ship here.

His previous results taken from the Memorial tougher conditions than this week are:

  • 2010 – 2nd
  • 2012 – 8th
  • 2013 – 8th
  • 2015 – 2nd
  • 2018 – 6th
  • 2019 – 13th

I do not need to tell you what a class act he is, and feel we have not seen the best of him for a number of years now. But feel this week could be the turning point he looks in great spirits and just need to see the flat stick start working this week. The team have seen him working a lot with his putting coach yesterday and this could be a positive. He drained thirty 10 footers in a row.

Most people’s wild card here this week, and for good reason. Probably not in the best of form coming into this week but that has not put off the team backing him here this week. He had a great start last week started with 66/65 then not sure what happened to him over the weekend. The putter was the main culprit having said that his strokes gained putting is trending positive.

Greens in regulation up, driving accuracy up, overall ball striking not many better than Marc when he is on point.

Top of the strokes gained approach he could be come Sunday evening, and with this said at 45/1 he is a must here this week.

He could still be rusty but take a look at some of his previous results on this track.

Nine cuts made straight two top five’s and two top twenty’s. Winner already this season at the Farmers and a runner up at the Arnold Palmer. Could be is second win of 2020.

Bit of a strange week trying to get some value for you here. So I decided to go with Ryan with odds of 100/1 in many places and with his last two finishes inside the top five why not let him ride for another week.

The putter on Sunday let him down last week and let’s face it when the bookies favourite took the lead no one was going to catch Bryson. So not a bad tied fourth place finishing at 16 under.

The strange thing about him is that before lockdown he missed six straight cuts with a driving accuracy and greens in regulation better than his last two events. This just backs up what our team advised that the work he has been putting in on his overall short game is now finally paying off.

If he can keep the putting moving in the right direction this week he could be again looking at another top ten if not better.
