WWT HISTORY
The World Wide Technology Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in Mexico, contested at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal golf course within the Diamante Cabo San Lucas resort. It debuted in February 2007 and was the first PGA Tour event to take place in Mexico. The first 16 years of the tournament took place in Riviera Maya before the tournament was moved to Los Cabos in 2023.
EL CARDONAL AT DIAMANTE
Diamante is a world-class golf destination in the bustling, ocean-side resort town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. TGR Design is thrilled to have added another distinctive 18-hole golf course to the property, Diamante’s second.
The design of El Cardonal was inspired by the classic Golden Age courses of the West Coast that Tiger played growing up. Tiger created a golf course that brings back strategy—there are typically several options for navigating each hole, and proper strategic decision-making is rewarded.
The existing arroyos and native dunes that traverse the site, along with well-placed fairway bunkers, provide ample risk-reward opportunities off the tees. Natural, irregular contours on the fairways and high-faced, greenside bunkers further enhance the course’s old-style look and feel.
With dramatic long-range views of the Pacific Ocean, this championship course offers wide landing areas that provide different angles and options to approach the greens, while promoting playability for golfers of all skill levels. The result is a memorable and enjoyable golf experience, where golfers who can weigh risk and make sound decisions will have the best opportunities to score.
ABU DHABI HSBC
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is a European Tour golf tournament held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. When founded in 2006, it was one of three European Tour events to be staged in the Arabian Peninsula, but at one point was one of six.
It is part of the Rolex Series, meaning it offers substantially more prize money than regular DP World Tour events. As a result, it tends to attract a strong field and gives spectators a chance to see more of the world’s biggest players in action.
The event has seen some thrilling play over the years; 4 holes-in-one were scored in the 2015 edition, while in 2016 Rickie Fowler won a remarkable battle with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson.
In 2022, Thomas Pieters finished 1 stroke clear of Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Shubhankar Sharma to win his 6th DP World Tour title.
YAS ISLAND
Yas Links Abu Dhabi, a first in the Middle East – where noble heritage combines with impressive surroundings to enrich both your game and your senses in a truly unique environment. Home to the 2022 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Kyle Phillips designed course ranks #34 in the world golf rankings and combines visual glory with the thrill of golf’s ultimate test.
The 18 hole course presents the kind of challenges that golfers from all over the world dream about.
Yas Links Abu Dhabi represents the first true Links Golf Course in the Middle East region, designed by Kyle Phillips, one of the world’s leading golf course designers.
The Championship Links course is located on the west shores of Yas Island.
The Par 72 Championship Links course has rolling hills and seashore greens. Opened on schedule in March 2010. Yas Links Abu Dhabi also played host to the golf element of the 2019 Special Olympics World, as well as the DP World Tour’s season opening Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, a Rolex Series event.

OUR PICKS
MIN WOO LEE 26/1
First up our old friend Min Woo have been watching him for a while the past few weeks. His game suits links types tracks and the way he has been striking it we like his chances again here. He also seems to be getting better at this venue which is also another good reason we feel he goes better than last year’s runner up spot. One to watch for us.
JEFF WINTER 130/1
Plenty to like here with Jeff this week.
Showing plenty of good form as well coming in with two top 20’s and a runner-up a few weeks back so no reason why he can’t win it here for us.
This week we also looked for good links players and he also fits the mould for this as has been proven over his career.
He ended up 10th here last year and left a lot of shots out there so we feel he could have a better week so one to defo watch.
THOMAS DETRY 45/1
Thomas is built for tracks and events like this. He has such a great ball-striking game and his planning from tee to green will be up there with the best this week. He will be setting up plenty of good chances to attack some of these tough pin positions and if the putter is on who knows.
He is not a fast starter so do not panic if he has a slow first round.
He will have plenty in the tank for the weekend we are sure.
OTHERS ON OUR SHORT LIST
JORDAN SMITH 40/1
HENRIK NORLANDER 80/1
DOUG GHIM 25/1 888SPORT 8PL
For those of you that have been with us for a while Doug has landed us some great money over the years.
He is playing some of his best golf right now and coming back to a course he loves to play and seems to score well at we could be looking good to again making some easy cash from him even at these odds.
We were with his group at the Shriners and boy was he close to winning I think he has the game to seal the deal here. Defo one to watch.
PATTON KIZZIRE 70/1
The whole GBT team feels this guy has an amazing chance to pick up another fast win following up his win at the Procore back in September.
One main stat that stood out for us this week was his strokes gained approach to the green, I do not think there are many players with a better record than him here this week.
Also another fact we tracked his proximity to hole over the past few events and boy that was impressive he will be setting up plenty of birdies so if the flat stick is on we could be winning some big cash.
DAVID LIPSKY 150/1
We got to know David well over the past few years and his career whilst playing most of his golf on the DP World Tour and now has really developed into a good solid player.
He has had an OK season so far and has been close to winning in a few events.
Of course, he is a big punt but you never know with golf and he should be there come the weekend.
Let’s see even a top 10 would be good.
