WWT HISTORY

The World Wide Technology Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in Mexico, contested at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal golf course within the Diamante Cabo San Lucas resort. It debuted in February 2007 and was the first PGA Tour event to take place in Mexico. The first 16 years of the tournament took place in Riviera Maya before the tournament was moved to Los Cabos in 2023.

EL CARDONAL AT DIAMANTE

Diamante is a world-class golf destination in the bustling, ocean-side resort town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. TGR Design is thrilled to have added another distinctive 18-hole golf course to the property, Diamante’s second.

The design of El Cardonal was inspired by the classic Golden Age courses of the West Coast that Tiger played growing up. Tiger created a golf course that brings back strategy—there are typically several options for navigating each hole, and proper strategic decision-making is rewarded.

The existing arroyos and native dunes that traverse the site, along with well-placed fairway bunkers, provide ample risk-reward opportunities off the tees. Natural, irregular contours on the fairways and high-faced, greenside bunkers further enhance the course’s old-style look and feel.

With dramatic long-range views of the Pacific Ocean, this championship course offers wide landing areas that provide different angles and options to approach the greens, while promoting playability for golfers of all skill levels. The result is a memorable and enjoyable golf experience, where golfers who can weigh risk and make sound decisions will have the best opportunities to score.

ABU DHABI HSBC

The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is a European Tour golf tournament held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. When founded in 2006, it was one of three European Tour events to be staged in the Arabian Peninsula, but at one point was one of six.

It is part of the Rolex Series, meaning it offers substantially more prize money than regular DP World Tour events. As a result, it tends to attract a strong field and gives spectators a chance to see more of the world’s biggest players in action.

The event has seen some thrilling play over the years; 4 holes-in-one were scored in the 2015 edition, while in 2016 Rickie Fowler won a remarkable battle with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson.

In 2022, Thomas Pieters finished 1 stroke clear of Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Shubhankar Sharma to win his 6th DP World Tour title.

YAS ISLAND

Yas Links Abu Dhabi, a first in the Middle East – where noble heritage combines with impressive surroundings to enrich both your game and your senses in a truly unique environment. Home to the 2022 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Kyle Phillips designed course ranks #34 in the world golf rankings and combines visual glory with the thrill of golf’s ultimate test.

The 18 hole course presents the kind of challenges that golfers from all over the world dream about.

Yas Links Abu Dhabi represents the first true Links Golf Course in the Middle East region, designed by Kyle Phillips, one of the world’s leading golf course designers.

The Championship Links course is located on the west shores of Yas Island.

The Par 72 Championship Links course has rolling hills and seashore greens. Opened on schedule in March 2010. Yas Links Abu Dhabi also played host to the golf element of the 2019 Special Olympics World, as well as the DP World Tour’s season opening Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, a Rolex Series event.

OUR PICKS
JUSTIN LOWER 100/1

Justin is our fan fav when it comes to Desert style golf tracks and paying style.

Only last week he proved this with a great third place finish at the Black Desert Championship, he closed Sunday well with a four under par round.

Yet to secure his first PGA Tour win but feel this week could be his best chance this season to do it and get over that winning line.

We set up trackman on him in practice and the one thing that stood out for me was his driving accuracy was on paper the best here this week. If you combine that with his iron play, we should be onto a winner here if the putter turns up for him.

Big price bet could be an epic winner for us.

ERIK VAN ROOYEN 80/1

We are getting Erik at a very good price this week, he did have a few issues at the Wyndham having to withdraw but he is now back to full health, and the ball striking is back better than ever, after what we saw live at the BMW a few weeks back.

Two-time winner on the PGA Tour is already a great achievement and guess where one of those wins were? Yes, the WWT in 2023.

He seems to be a creature of habit and when he plays well at a certain event, he normally keeps that trend going year on year. I feel we have the bookies beat here and his recent form has gifted us with this bigger price so wanted to take full advantage.

GARRICK HIGGO 25/1

There is no one coming into this week in better form that Garrick. Following his missed cut at the Wyndham he has gone:

  • PROCORE – 7TH
  • SANDERSONS – 2ND
  • BAYCURRENT – 4TH

Not much else to say on form is there.

Again, he is another player who just seems to slot into this course environment and set up this week.

Having only joined the PGA in 2021 he has won twice already with a win this year at the Corales so watch he make some history here and get win number two for the season.

What an amazing win he had at the BMW last month.

Beating the best players in the world. We caught up with him at the Ryder Cup week and let’s face it he could have been playing himself.

One thing that we picked up on was the way he was talking about his swing right now, he said he has never hit it so well and feels, he will have a good end to the season.

Yet to make the breakthrough on the PGA Tour but its only a matter of time, one to watch here.

ANGEL AYORA 50/1

For those of you that have not yet heard of this talented Spaniard. We bring you Angel Ayora this week managed by the son of the late great Seve himself.

Having only turned professional in 2023 his start has been quite special.

Three top ten finishes in his last four starts WOW!!

One of the longest hitters playing this week and straight as well. He will win plenty and feel it could be his best chance here and at these odds it’s a winner for us.

KEITA NAKAJIMA 70/1

One of his goals at the start of 2025 was to break into the world’s top 100. He is now knocking on that door he was around 134 a few weeks ago now at 106 having a great week in India finishing as the runner up but still pushed him up the rankings.

There is so much to like about his style of play which will factor a lot around here so we should see him over the weekend in with a chance.

When we were with his group at the British Masters this year, there was something special about the way he grinds out good scores even that week his Saturday’s round he was all over the place but still managed to shoot a 68 which was impressive, he will need that around here as well this week. One to watch.
