THE 2020 WGC-FEDEX ST. JUDE INVITATIONAL WILL BE PLAYED JULY 29-AUGUST 2

TPC Southwind is the proud host of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

The World Golf Championships consistently attract the most elite and global fields of the year, with 45-50 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking teeing it up in the four annual events.  Fans will be treated to the brightest stars in the game like Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and more on an annual basis.

The PGA TOUR has held a tournament in Memphis every year since 1958 with Colonial Country Club playing host until the event moved permanently to TPC Southwind in 1989. FedEx first became the title sponsor in 1986 and has supported the tournament ever since. FedEx has been involved with the FedEx St. Jude Classic for more than 30 years and has helped raise more than $38 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Past champions at TPC Southwind who have also won a World Golf Championships event include Dustin Johnson (2012), Jeff Maggert (2006) and David Toms (2003, 2004). Daniel Berger is the current two-time champion at TPC Southwind, having successfully defended his title in 2017 for his second career PGA TOUR victory.

DANNY WILLET: I heard some good things about it when it was a tour event. Obviously, a golf course being a TPC you know that the credentials are there and the guys think pretty highly of it.

PHIL MICKELSON: It’s in great shape.  It always is.  It’s really a wonderful golf course.  I think it’s one of the most underrated courses or the most underrated course we have on TOUR.  I think that it’s such a straightforward, fun test of golf, and if you hit good shots, you get rewarded with good putts at birdies, and if you miss the greens, you’re challenged by a very good up and down.  I like everything about Southwind.  I don’t think it gets the credit it deserves, but it’s really a wonderful layout.

RYAN PALMER:  I love this golf course.  I’ve always loved coming here.  Something about these greens that gets me going.  I’ve had success on this golf course, and, you know, it’s great to get another low round in.

BEN CRANE:  I’ve never seen the golf course in this good a shape.  It is absolutely impressive…The greens are as good a greens as we have putted all year.  I would put these at or better than Augusta National.  I mean, these greens are incredible right now.”

BILLY HORSCHEL: I think this is an underrated golf course.  I think it’s probably one of the Top-5 golf courses in my opinion.

BROOKS KOPEKA: I think it’s perfect for bombers.  A great course.  Fairways are 60 yards wide, hundred yards wide, feels like.  Hit it over 300 yards, it’s paradise for you.

BEN CRANE: I love this golf course. I love the routing of it. I love–it’s just something, I think it’s one of the best courses. Stewart and I were mentioning walking up, is this the best golf course on tour? It’s certainly in the top-5. So it’s just really well thought out. I couldn’t love it any more.

He is HOT HOT HOT

Trending in the right way. Hard not to see him contending again and let’s be honest how did he not win that event last week. The only players hotter than him coming into this week is Rahm and Bryson, but they are going to be too low in the market for me, so going to edge my bets on Tony.

Great stats on this type of track set up and at this price one to get on your betting slip.

Going £5 EW most bookies have him at around 33’s we are going William Hill 7 places at 35/1

Most of the talk this week will be Tommy and Tyrell for the best challenge from England to win this week. That is why I like Matt coming somewhat under the radar and it is only a matter of time before he breaks his duck on US soil. Five times winner on the European Tour it is only a matter of time.

The Memorial he was the only player in the field to record a score in the 60’s in the final round, he led the field in scrambling with 73% and a Par 3 average of 2.75.

He has also been the 36 hole leader at the WGC HSBC and also at this event last year where he managed a top ten finish.

Should go well and if in contention on the Sunday no one better to seal the deal.

Going £5EW with William Hill 35/1 paying 7 places.

Not much to say really apart from he always turns up at the big events, and whenever we have gone with him he has not disappointed.

Eight PGA Tour victories to his name, already a winner of a WGC event this season in Mexico oh by the way we tipped him that week as well at 50/1 picking us up a nice £310.

He has been finding his swing since the return and I feel now is the best time to play him and at 35/1 it reads a green light for another big win.

Same bet here £5EW with William Hill again paying 7 places with odds of 35/1

Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club

Located in the heart of the Midlands amongst the rural Warwickshire countryside, the Forest of Arden is recognised as one of the premier golf destinations in the UK with two fantastic golf courses offering unparalleled opportunities for golfers of all abilities.

About the Forest of Arden Country Club

The Championship Arden Course has played host to a succession of European Tour Events, such as the British Masters, European Senior Masters and English Open, and has seen golfing greats, such as Colin Montgomerie and 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke, crowned victorious.

The Arden Course, designed by Donald Steele in 1992, has played host to a succession of international tournaments, including the British Masters and the English Open. The par 72 course, measuring 7,213 yards, is a true test of golf designed to make golfers play a wide range of shots. A variety of different tee boxes, water hazards, trees, which neatly line the fairways, and thick rough make the Arden Golf Course long and challenging but still a very enjoyable test of golf for golfers of all abilities.

Coming off a great week at the British Masters finishing in a tie for 14th place. I can only see him doing the same here again, normally a player who trends well when he hits a bit of form.

He has played 96 tournaments and yet to win on the European Tour could he get this done before he reaches the big 100. I think it has been a target he has set himself to get this done and once again with such a weak field no better chance to notch up his first ET win.

I like a top ten bet here at 5/1 £5 to win, then cover a £5 EW with BetFred paying 7 places at 80/1

Has to be my banker for the week in Thomas. We have seen him out on the course this week and boy does he look good. I can see why the bookies have him this low.

He also leads the field in course fit for everything matched below:

  • Top 8 GIR
  • Top 5 Bogey Avoidance
  • Top 5 Birdie Performance
  • Top 4 Par 4 Performance
  • Top 7 Sand Saves

Didn’t do a lot wrong last week only just missing the cut on a course that is just not his cup of tea. We like the look of his performance at the Austrian Open where he had an impressive top ten.

Should go well here this week going £5EW with BetFred paying 7 places at 20/1

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider _builder_version=”4.5.1″ _module_preset=”default”][/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.1″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Squada One|700|||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″ text_font_size=”29px”]

Another player coming off the back of a missed cut again only by a couple of strokes and once again a course which did not suit he overall game.

If exclude last week his past three events read

  • Oman Open – 3rd
  • Qatar – 12th
  • Austrian – 18th

He is looking good out there and was angry speaking to the team on missing the cut last week. He felt his game was on and if he had made the weekend he could have gone low as the putter was starting to get hot.

Going for a £3EW bet here with PP paying 7 Places 80/1.

Big ask big price??? But all is not lost here with him this week. Amazing to see such great value for him after one of the best results he has had this season by far. The older players have really come back a lot more refreshed after having spent time with the family, and time to reflect on what they need to work on.

Graeme has done just that and has found that grove carding three rounds in the sixties to close last week at the British Masters, finishing in a tie for 10th and with his first return to the European Tour since lock down was pretty impressive.

With two ET tour wins he could do a Marc Warren and come out of nowhere here at 200/1 to snatch his third.

Not going mad but a £2EW with William Hill at 200/1 paying 6 places.
