RSM CLASSIC
The Australian PGA Championship is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia. It is the home tournament of the Australian PGA. Since 2000 it has been held in the South East Queensland region. The tournament was part of the OneAsia Tour from 2009 to 2014, and it has been co-sanctioned with the European Tour from 2015 to 2019 and again in 2022.
The championship started in 1929, when the Australian Golf Union decided to hold the Australian Professional Championship during their annual championship meeting. The leading 16 professionals in the Open championship qualified for the match play event, with four rounds of matches over 36 holes. The winner, Rufus Stewart, received the Joe Kirkwood Cup, donated by Australian golfer Joe Kirkwood Sr. After World War II the PGA of Australia took over the organisation of the championship. It was a match-play event until 1964, when it became a 72-hole stroke-play tournament. Kel Nagle holds the record for the most wins, with 6 wins, while Bill Dunk won the championship five times.
Before becoming a “championship” in 1929, several professional competitions were held at the Australian Golf Union championship meetings, the first being held in 1904. The Australian PGA treat some of these competitions, starting in 1905, as earlier editions of the same event. They also include the 1926 Sun-Herald Tournament as part of the same series.
THE ROYAL QUEENSLAND GC
The Royal Queensland Golf Club is a golf club and course at the end of Curtin West Avenue, Eagle Farm, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Located beside the Brisbane River is a 10-minute drive from the Brisbane CBD. It has hosted the Australian Open three times: in 1947, 1966, and 1973.
The Royal Queensland Golf Club was founded in 1920, initially as the Queensland Golf Club. The original course was designed by Carnegie Clark, the Australian Open Champion, and was opened by the Governor-General Lord Forster in 1921. King George V gave the club its Royal Charter in 1921; the King’s official letter of notification to the Governor of Queensland was signed by Winston Churchill (then British Secretary of State). Construction of the new Championship course was completed in December 2007. In 2005, the Queensland Government decided to build a second Gateway Bridge over the Brisbane River, which impacted on the original course. The new Royal Queensland layout was designed by Mike Clayton.

The RSM Classic is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played in the autumn in Georgia. It debuted in October 2010 on St. Simons Island, Georgia at the Sea Island Golf Club. The tournament was known as the McGladrey Classic until 2015, when the title sponsor’s name changed from McGladrey to RSM US.
Resident tour pros Davis Love III and Zach Johnson kicked off the event in March 2010, where they helped to unveil the tournament’s new logo, which was painted by Rock Demarco. The inaugural event in 2010 was won by Heath Slocum, one stroke ahead of runner-up Bill Haas.
Since 2015, the event has been played over both the Seaside and Plantation courses at Sea Island, with the field expanded to 156 players. Between 2015 and 2019 and in 2021, it was the final official PGA Tour event of the calendar year, with only a few unofficial tournaments being held until the season resumed in January.
SEA ISLAND GOLF
Sea Island’s most dramatic layout, Seaside is routinely ranked among the top 100 courses in the United States. Beautifully manicured fairways and greens, sweeping dunes mixed with native grasses, wildflowers, and bunkers. And a wind that creates a different golf experience daily. Seaside is an ocean-side links course that combines a beautiful natural setting with a golf course that is both challenging and fun. It’s tough to have a bad day on a course like this.
A Tom Fazio re-design of the 1929 classic by famous golf course architects Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison, today’s course ties the original Seaside with the old Marshside course, transforming two nines from “18 holes that didn’t match into 18 matchless holes,” according to Sea Island touring professional Davis Love III. Along with the Plantation Course, it is the home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, a FedEx cup event hosted by Love.
PLANTATION COURSE
A vision. A labour of love. An on-going conversation between brothers about the course they grew up playing more times than they can count. Inspired by the traditional profile of Walter Travis’ 1928 original nine-hole course, our beloved Plantation Course was completely redesigned by Davis and Mark Love of Love Golf Design in 2019.
A historic course for a historic resort, Plantation is a classic design that brings back some traditional features and character: bulkheads, railroad ties, the Principal’s Nose on #10 green, a punch bowl green on #13. And a few of Travis’ chocolate drops here and there. Fewer bunkers, a more open feel. Strategically interesting, with a challenging finishing hole. But since this is a course that keeps playability top of mind for all levels, there’s always a way. Along with the neighbouring Seaside Course, it is the home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, a FedEx cup event hosted by Love.

OUR PICKS
ELVIS SMYLIE 80/1
It is always hard to find good value at these types of events as with around 20 favourites we had to look closer to home and players we have tracked. First up was Elvis we have been following him for some time now
Winner of the Australian Boys in 2019 and when you see the list of players who have won that over the years you know he is from good stock – Adam Scott – Jason Day – Cam Smith
He is still young but feel that world breakthrough could come here at his home.
Form is good with a win under his belt only last month. Could be getting us a good payday.
JASON SCRIVENER 66/1
Jason has been on our reports a lot over the past year but feel this week back on home soil he has now gained our trust in him to deliver on the big stage.
He has been a pro now for just over ten years and is still quite young in golfing terms at 35 some of his best wins are to come.
We tracked his play at the Omega Masters where he had a great week and did nearly get the job done, it was just the odd putt that didn’t drop that cost him the win.
The team feel that the next couple of years could be the break through for him and it could all start this week.
CURTIS LUCK 80/1
Another great player with so much talent. With a name with Luck in it, it could be just the ticket for us and a great omen.
He has been playing quite a bit of golf on the Korn Ferry, where we have had plenty of our team working. A few of them have also mentioned Curtis to us in the build-up to this event.
Stats: He fits the bill around here and will be a horses for courses pick. We are sure of that one to watch.
EXTRAS ON THE LIST THIS WEEK
MICHAEL WRIGHT 1000/1
MICHAEL WRIGHT 1000/1
GREYSON SIGG 80/1
First up this week was hot on every one of our team’s reports Mr Sigg.
This guy has been on FIRE lately and is looking to seal the deal with a win very soon. I feel this course and set-up could be just the ticket for us.
His latest five events read:
PROCORE 4TH
SANDERSON MC
BLACK DESERT 11TH
SHRINERS 23RD
BERMUDA 9TH
At 80/1 this is a crazy price let’s take money from the bookies here.
Our NAP
JJ SPAUN 40/1
Next, we are back with JJ Spaun, and for good reason. As you know, we have been tracking a lot of his golf this year, and from what we have seen of him lately, we have plenty to like.
We caught up with him at the ZOZO this year and saw plenty that impressed us that week.
One part of his game we liked was his approach play and greens in regulation where he sits very high on the PGA stats, also his approach from 200 yards in has to be one of the best here this week and will make a massive difference to the winner here.
Proximity is also top form one to watch and if he gets the flat stick working who knows?
SEAMUS POWER 30/1
Two-time PGA Tour winner steps into this week in a very good run of form this season.
He has not really done much in the way for getting another win but he has been steady. I feel he is too good a player not to challenge for another victory before the end of 2024 and feel with a weaker field here this week we could be getting very good value for him here.
One to watch and if I had to pick out a key stat it would be his scrambling no one is better in the field this week than him and could be what is needed come Sunday if it goes to a shoot out.
