The Sony Open in Hawaii is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, and is part of the tour’s FedEx Cup Series. It has been contested at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii, since the event’s modern-day inception as the Hawaiian Open in November 1965.
In addition to the usual PGA Tour eligibility criteria, the Sony Open may invite up to three professional golfers from emerging markets.
Preparations for the 2018 Sony Open were briefly disrupted by a false emergency alert stating that a ballistic missile had been launched toward Hawaii. Staff members reportedly attempted to take shelter in the players’ locker room, the media centre was ordered to evacuate, and several players posted messages on social media about the erroneous alert, which was sent to all smartphones in the state.
The alert was ultimately determined to have been sent in error. Before the final round, Golf Channel cameramen also staged a walkout.
Waialae Country Club
Waialae Country Club is a private country club in East Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded 95 years ago in 1927 and designed by Seth Raynor, it is a par 72 championship course at 7,125 yards (6,515 m) from the Championship tees. From the Members tees at 6,456 yards (5,903 m), the course rating is 71.8 with a slope rating of 136.
The Waialae golf course hosts the Sony Open in Hawaii on the PGA Tour in January, the first full-field event of the calendar year. The event has had several corporate sponsors since its founding in 1965 as the Hawaiian Open.
The par three 13th is designed from one on the Biarritz Course in France.
Waialae’s 8th hole is patterned after the famous Redan hole on the North Berwick Golf Club in Scotland.
The special 16th hole is similar to the 6th hole of the National Golf Links of America at Southampton, Long Island.
The 10th Hole introduces features of the 17th or Road hole at St. Andrews in Scotland.

Big man Leishman will be fighting hard for the win this week after his good friend won the Sentry, they were having plenty of banter after the round yesterday with Cam celebrating.
He had a good start last week with a top ten finish shooting 69/67/65/68 we were following some of his back nine and he could have finished easily 26 under par but just missed a few putts.
His last win was at the Farmers back in 2020 so well overdue another bit of silverware. I was surprised to see him so down the world rankings I feel he wins at least twice in 2022 and this week should be the perfect kick start to this.
Another great Aussie win could be on the cards so watch this space he managed a top four here last year and I know Cam will also play well here I feel he gets the better of him this week as the course is set up for Marc’s overall game.

This will be Webb’s first full event in 2022. He has been here early and has had a lot of practice around Waialae and looks like his game is on fire. He is striking his irons as pure as you like so watch this space he could be setting up a lot of birdies here.
He is a player who does seem to like tightly lined fairways and small target areas this place you have to play the course point to point so not really a big hitters track. His play suits it around here and feel it’s only a matter of time before he gets the job done here.
His previous around here backs this up here are his results since 2009:
9-3-46-38-20-13-13-13-4-3-4
So that’s three top five finishes in his last three visits here. Enough said could be a banker for us.

This young kid from Canada is already making a name for himself bursting onto the PGA Tour back in 2019, and winning in his rookie year at the Texas Open beating the Hoff by two strokes. He came so close in 2021 to getting another win and he fared well in the majors too.
- 2021 – Arnold Palmer 3RD
- 2021 – Masters 8TH
- 2021 – RBC 4TH
- 2021 – The Players 7TH
- 2021 – Northern Trust 8TH
- 2021 – Open 15TH
I think this year could be a breakthrough year for him and I see him winning a major within the next couple of years. Again he is another player who seems it easy to plot his way around tight courses so this will be a place that he should fit in well. His Masters appearances over the past three years are good reading 2019 46TH 2020 10TH 2021 8TH and feel he would also be a good banker now for the Masters you can get 66/1 now everywhere and feel this could drop if he starts 2022 well.
Defo one to watch this week the putter from what we have seem out there already seems to be hot.
Could be PGA win number two.

This is a no brainer pick for this week for the team.
He has won for us before we backed him at the Dell Match Play with odds at 80/1 and returned us £490.
He has had four top five finishes here over the years and feel he will be doing pretty much the same again this week. There are not many better iron players in the field this week than him. He was dialled in last week at the Sentry closing the weekend with 66/65 to climb up the leader board.
The odds will be lower than we normally like but I see a winning week for Kev.

One of these players that should have a good week here and at around 40/1 we like it a lot. He was runner up to Cam Smith at this event back in 2017. But with our guys who are there live this week said plenty of positives. With a much weaker field I think he could go on and seal the deal here.
One of our caddies worked the Gippsland Super back in December and said he should have won that event. He came close again last week at the Queanbeyan Open so the game is on point watch this space.
