Porsche European Open

Green Eagle Golf Courses, Hamburg, Germany

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.2″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”|600|||||||” text_text_color=”#000000″]

The North Course, which opened in 2008 and has been called the Porsche North Course since 2018, extends over a total of 86 hectares and was designed from the outset to meet the needs of international professional tournaments. With its 7,057 m length from the Champions Tee, it is the longest course on the European Tour and one of the 10 longest courses in the world.

In addition to the lengths, the element of water represents one of the greatest challenges of the modern and unique Porsche North Course. 17 holes are designed with water hazards, some of which accompany the fairways from the tee, along the beautiful fairways, to the green. Bunkers strategically positioned close to the greens challenge every player at the very highest level.

According to the course rating of the DGV, the Porsche North Course from the Champions Tee is the hardest course in Germany.

At each hole there are four tees available, which offer the right challenge for every skill level.

By organizing, among other things, 8 international professional tournaments, such as the European Challenge Tour in 2010, a lot of experience has already been gained, which is constantly being incorporated into the further development of the entire facility, especially the Porsche North Course.

The numerous natural grandstands allow an ideal view of the players!

Convince yourself of the “Green Monster”, as Alice Cooper once called the Porsche North Course, and experience the course, which has already been a challenge for world-class players three times during the Porsche European Open (2017-2019).

We know Ross well and have played quite a bit of golf with him over the years around the UK and especial at Wentworth.

He is very temperamental so always a bit wary when backing him as to what Ross will turn up. We have heard some good reports back this week and feel he could be ready to go on a great run of form.

The team have noticed a marked improvement with his total game over the past month or so and he looks like he could be close to that sixth ET win very soon. He is also a creature of habit and if he likes a course and the way it is set up then he normally preforms well consistently, his last three visits here have been fifth, second and 46TH

After chatting to them both yesterday in practice they seem well up for this week. Watch this space.

I am never 100% when playing Sam and feel his odds seem to low this week. But the team have assured me he is worthy of a punt here this week.

  • Course experience tick
  • Performance coming in tick
  • Two ET wins on two tough courses in 2020
  • Only one missed cut in nine starts
  • 2021 seven events three top ten’s

Scrambling and putting will be what is needed this week to keep the bogeys of your card. Putts per green in regulation he sits in first place on the European tour stats, and a great short.

We joined up with him in practice when he was out in Kenya over the two weeks and he talked about this place and said he really enjoyed the way the course can be set up and the amount of different challenges, and how mentally tough it can be around here.

I know of late the leader boards on the ET have been a bit of a mix of senior v’s challenge tour

I can see that changing this week and will hopefully see our picks at the forefront, with Sam in with a great chance come Sunday.

Mikko our trusted friend from Finland has the game for around here this week.

We tipped to win the Shot Clock Masters back in June 2018 at 28/1 and he did that in style for us. Since then we have backed him a few more times over the past few years with not a great deal of success. But I feel that changes this week.

The missed cut for me has helped us get these odds at 80/1 which I feel is a win win for us.

He found his grove at the Betfred British Masters and we followed most of his play over the weekend where he ended up in a tie for third place only one shot back.

Another thing is he has not played this event since 2016, in fact he has played twice 2015 and 2016 where he made the cut on both occasions and finished 12TH and 28TH

Could be a danger man here watch this space.

Muirfield Village Golf Club was the dream and work of Jack Nicklaus. The land was acquired in 1966, but construction did not begin until July 28, 1972. The golf course is situated on 220 acres, which includes an 11-acre driving range.

The course was officially dedicated on Memorial Day, May 27, 1974, with an exhibition match between Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. Nicklaus scored a six-under par 66, which stood as the course record until 1979.

First up is Tony for me. He has to get the job done soon right? It has been five long years for Tony with his last victory being the Puerto Rico Open back in 2016.

It has been a drawn out joke to be honest how he has not won again for so long. This season alone fourth at the American Express, two back to back seconds at the Farmers and the Genesis. Tenth place at the Masters and another top ten at the PGA Championship.

He has to be good value this week and could easy get us at worst a place return. He ticks all the right boxes for here and has shown a marked improvement with his strokes gained off the tee. Around the green he is mustard and that part of anyone’s game needs to be on here this week. The putter is a slight worry but again we have also seen positives from the flat stick as well the past month.

Let’s hope he can close this drought and seal the deal for us this week.

Billy a six time winner on the PGA Tour has still well under preformed over the past few years. The world number twenty is well overdue another win for the 2021. This week could be that week.

His previous around here have been: 41/15/11/MC/MC/9/7/13 so that’s five top fifteen finishes since 2014 WOW. He is also coming into this week with a win under his belt at the WGC Dell Matchplay, and a great fourth place at the Zurich Classic.

We got to see his first couple of opening rounds at the RBC Heritage 66/67 he looked on point and thought he was going to romp home to victory then.

I think the stage is set and we could bag us a 60+ winner here this week and what a start to JUNE.

Sticking with Gary again this week. He is progressing nicely for us and played well at the Charles Schwab last week. He should have yet another good week here and feel it could be at worst a place return.

This course again should suit Gary and talk about course experience he has this in abundance, if we go back as far as 2011 yes 2011 he has managed to make the cut on nine occasions with three top ten’s as well as three top twenty five’s. Pretty impressive reading and for a player who is back striking it as good as he was in 2020. He could go low here watch out the field.

The big Leish at this price am all over this. So a missed cut at the PGA Championship is a factor but as we know no professional golfer can turn up every week and preform their best golf as is proven on any tour.

Again for me experience around this course and the event knowledge is key to anyone winning it this week again same as Woodland he has a proven record around here. Four top fifteen finishes covering his last seven appearances here again is pretty impressive reading.

The numbers we had back also read well for this week the driver seems to be long and straight and his par four scoring has also improved so a big box ticked for the set up here this week.  Looking for a steady start rounds one and two then will creep up that leader board over the weekend.
