US OPEN 2025

US OPEN HISTORY

The United States Open Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the annual open national championship of golf in the United States. It is the third of the four men’s major golf championships and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Since 1898 the competition has been 72 holes of stroke play (4 rounds on an 18-hole course), with the winner being the player with the lowest total number of strokes. It is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June, scheduled so that, if there are no weather delays, the final round is played on the third Sunday. The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, set up in such a way that scoring is very difficult, with a premium placed on accurate driving. As of 2024, the U.S. Open awards a $21.5 million purse, the largest of all four major championships.

USGA AT OAKMONT

The United States Golf Association (USGA) and Oakmont Country Club have a long-standing relationship. The Club first joined the organization in 1903, and W.C. Fownes, Jr. served as the organization’s president in 1926-27. Over the years, countless OCC members have served in the USGA ranks, many on the organization’s Executive Committee.

Over the last century-plus, Oakmont has played host to 17 USGA Championships. The United States Open Championship has been contested here a record nine times, with the tenth coming in 2025. The U.S. Amateur Championships was the first USGA event at the Club in 1919, and has been played here six times overall. In 1992, the Club hosted its first of two U.S. Women’s Open Championships. Of the 17 champions, eight have been enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

As Oakmont looks to the future, the calendar is full of USGA Championships. The U.S. Open will return in 2025, 2033, 2042 and 2049. The U.S. Women’s Open returns to Oakmont in 2028 and 2038. In 2032, the Club will host its first Walker Cup Matches, pitting the best American amateurs against the best amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland. In 2046, the U.S. Women’s Amateur will be decided on Oakmont’s links for the first time.

OUR TIPS

RORY MCLLROY 11/1

For those of you who have been with us for some time, you know we hardly ever back or take low odds. But this Major we had to back Rory with the form he has coming in, winning at the Masters was the bogey of his back.

We all feel that he will just cruise into winning more events now and will start here at Oakmont.

There is only one player better suited to here and that’s Scottie, but he can’t keep that up, can he.

Going to be a win only bet here.

HARRIS ENGLISH 100/1

Harris is coming into this week under the radar of the bookies, which is good news for us.

With five career PGA Tour wins under his belt and with one of these wins coming in 2025 we have plenty to shout about.

The team tracked lots of his golf at the Masters, and he did not disappoint that week, closing on Sunday with a 68 to finish in a tie for 12TH place. Then the following Major, he could have won that closing again on Sunday in style 65 to land another great week finishing in second place.

Third time lucky for the Majors in 2025, he could be just the player for us. Our NAP!!!
