The South course was originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957, and is home to the Farmers Insurance Open PGA Golf Tournament (along with the North Course). In 2001 and again in 2019, Torrey Pines South Course was renovated and redesigned by Rees Jones. With the most recent renovations, Torrey Pines South is longer and plays more difficult, with the South’s teeing areas extending the length of this course to up to 7,800 yards.

Our Picks

100/1

RYAN PALMER
Palmer is a great bet this week. Inside the top 35 for SG off the tee on the PGA. Ranked top ten in going for green percentage with over 70% a must for this track. Also Poa Annua greens specialist as he has proven here and also his results at the AT&T over the years also Poa Annua greens. Only missed the one cut this year so he should hopefully get us into the weekend then who knows.

At 110/1 a great each way punt with SkyBet paying 11 places. Odds taken 14TH June Odds checker.

40/1

JUSTIN ROSE
Our good friend Rosey is due a big return for us. This could be his week and from what the team have said with him out in practice he is looking on fire around and on the greens. His record at Torrey is also pretty impressive from 2010 he has gone 22-25-33-MC-MC-4-8-1-MC.

His US Open record is also good reading, winner of course in 2013 he has also five top ten’s and seven top 25’s since 2003.

In great spirits and like I said owes us a good return and at 40’s an easy bet for me.

25/1

TONY FINAU
Another player who just loves it at Torrey, for me a horses for courses pick here.

He will win his second PGA Tour title and this could his week, I feel as soon as he gets the win he will then go on a run and with his game could be a danger man over the next few years. He finished in a tie for 10th last year and that made it his third consecutive top ten in major championships.

I mean every box is ticked and I see no reason why another top ten this week. My only concern is of course his putting but this week is different as he is a different animal on Poa Annua greens.

Watch this space 25’s is still a good bet with SkyBet 11 places.

66/1

JASON KOKRAK
***GREEN LIGHT ***

What is not to love with Kokrak this week? Now the world number 22 only needs a major win to top off an amazing few years. Twice a winner on the PGA Tour this season so form is not an issue and at this price I was stunned he was so high in the market place. We followed a lot of his golf when he won the Charles Schwab where he led the field in SG off the tee.

He can also get hot with the putter and feel he is trending in the right direction having gained over a shot on the field on his last two outings at the PGA Champ and the Charles Schwab.

Been looking relaxed and the numbers we got back from trackman so far this week all reads great.

28/1

PATRICK REED
Our NAP of the week here is with Patrick. His run coming into this week from the Players:

22-28-8-MC-6-17-MC-5

One of the best putters on Poa Annua greens for sure, his game is match fit and the Torrey stats read 39-23-13-6-Win.

The good thing is, the work he has been putting in with the Driver is now also starting to pay off, he has increased his percentage to close to 70% accuracy now which is more like it and will hold him in good stead around here.

He could go very low and run away with the win here.

He is 28’s you can get 30’s in places still. He is our banker for the week.

45/1

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN
Going to throw Louis in again this week, he got us a good profit at the PGA Champ we backed £5EW at 55/1 he returned us £70.

He came back as a double star pick from the guys we have working the event this week. This means a player is a Torrey Pines expert where they feature high on the stats for over two or more categories.

Of course the putting is his best feature but this was not the case in the final round of the last major so owes us a few more feet of putts to be made this week.

His US Open record is good check out his results since 2014 – 40-2-23-23-16-7-3

2021???

45/1 with Paddy Power 10 places is a great bet.

250/1

LANTO GRIFFIN
At this price people will thinking he has no chance.

Based on his Torrey Pines history and Poa Annua greens he sits inside the top twenty this week against a very strong field. His game has not been firing as much lately with a few missed cuts but we have still seen him have some great results in 2021 so a dip of form was on the cards to be fair.

The last two events the PGA Champ just not his type of course or set up, same goes for the Memorial. But Torrey is right up his alley and I can see him getting a top ten here if he can get out the blocks early. The team said he is looking confident and excited to get out and play.

Take a look around some places are as high as 500/1

66/1

MARC LEISHMAN
This spot was going to Patrick Cantley but after seeing his record at Torrey I decided against putting him in and went for a better value pick in Marc. Another player who has had an incredible season eighteen events down, the winner at the Zurich Classic, three top ten’s and seven top 25’s.

I tipped him for the Masters this year and he did not disappoint at 100/1 he got us a place return we backed him £5EW and returned £105.

We caught up with him last week at the Memorial and to be fair he was using the weekend to practice various different shot shapes and types that he would be using at Torrey. So that could explain the 75/76 weekend play. Like I said he is a perfect fit for Torrey and see him having a great week.

His previous around Torrey reads: 26-2-9-52-MC-2-27-MC-20-8-43-WIN-18

A much better value bet than Cantley 25’s

66/1 SkyBet 11 places

150/1

KEVIN STREELMAN
Over 125/1 This is a must for anyone wanting to steal a few pounds of the bookies this week.

His is coming off his best finish in a Major ever finishing in a tie for eighth place at the PGA Championship only last month so the game is on. He managed a tied thirteenth place at the US Open in 2016 he is in a much better place right now.

He has been a top fifty in the world player for over a year now and even though his last win was the Travelers back in 2014 he has been very close to picking up his third PGA Tour victory.

If he makes the cut we could be counting our cash Sunday evening.

80/1

MAX HOMA
Think this is the first time I have tipped Max, I feel he is worth a punt at this price.

Another player who has had a few missed cuts of late, but when he turns up he usually is challenging the leaders.

The AT&T for me is when the team noticed his potential for Torrey and this week. He looked so good on the greens that week, with one of his best putting performances this season gaining 1.3 strokes over the field. Since then he has managed another couple of great chances to win at the Valspar and the Memorial last week.

A player that could throw in a missed cut as never really sure what Max will turn up but again if he starts well could be in with chances.
