The Wyndham Championship is a professional golf tournament in North Carolina on the PGA Tour. It is played annually in Greensboro and was originally the Greater Greensboro Open.

SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB

The event has been played in the Greensboro area for its entire history. In its first four years, it was played at both Sedgefield Country Club and Starmount Forest Country Club. During World War II, it shifted solely to Starmount Forest in 1942, and was not held in 1943 and 1944. Starting in 1945, it alternated between Starmount Forest and Sedgefield until 1952, when Starmount Forest hosted for consecutive years.

It returned to Sedgefield in 1953 before Starmount Forest hosted for three consecutive years, (through 1956). Sedgefield hosted in 1957 and Starmount Forest hosted for another three straight years from 1958–60, then back to Sedgefield from 1961 to 1976. It shifted to Forest Oaks Country Club from 1977 to 2007, then returned to Sedgefield in 2008.[9] The course at Sedgefield was designed by noted architect Donald Ross; it opened 97 years ago in 1926 and was restored in 2007.

OUR PICKS
BILLY HORSCHEL 60/1

First pick up this week goes to Billy. We know him well and have followed a lot of his season with interest and held back from backing him at a few events. Our team were with his group over the weekend in Scotland a few weeks back and liked what they saw. We again liked what we saw last week at the 3M Open.

This could be his week to make a great run for the Ryder Cup team and the FedEx rankings.

He has had three top tens here over the past seven years so enjoys this Donald Ross set up.

The greens this week will be right up his alley and the putter is back so could be making lots of birdies here this week. Could go ahead and storm away from the pack this week. My NAP of the week.

RUSSELL HENLEY 25/1

Russell will of course be one of the favs this week and for good reason and we could not really leave him out of the betting. There is one player with a better recent record around this place a certain Sungjae Im both will be heading the market this week.

He is the best driver of the golf ball this week ranking first for driving accuracy on the PGA Tour. He is also top fifty for strokes gained total.

The putter for me has been his weakness over the past season, but an interesting fact the team suggested was that his 10-15 foot range has improved by nearly 10% over the past ten events. This could be a key factor to him getting over the line here this week and picking up win number five on the PGA Tour.

One to have in your line up this week for sure.

BRENDON TODD 80/1

I had backed Todd for the Open and he played well that week. Had a top fifty finish in the end.  We expected a bit more from him to be honest. Coming off a runner up spot at the John Deere Classic, I think the travelling played its part for him over the weekend.

His skill set and his previous results on Donald Ross courses over the years is very impressive. He ticks every box here this week, straight off the tee ranked tenth in driving accuracy. On these greens he will be a cut above the rest here are just a few of his recent putting stats we managed to track:

  • Putting Avg – 12TH714
  • Putts Per Round – 11TH03
  • One-putt % – 14TH13%
  • SG Putting – 20TH .490

Normally a slow starter to events so no need to panic if it’s a level par first round.
