SENTRY TOC

The Sentry Tournament of Champions is the calendar-year opening tournament of golf’s PGA Tour season, played in Hawaii on the island of Maui. The tournament was founded in 1953; for most of its history the field was restricted to golfers who won a tournament on the tour during the previous calendar year, but players who qualified for the preceding Tour Championship are now invited as well. From 1986 through 2013, it was the opening event of each tour season; the PGA Tour switched to its wrap-around season (starting season in September and ending in August) in the fall of 2013. In 2022, Cameron Smith shot the lowest 72 hole to-par score in the history of the PGA Tour. He shot 34 under par to win the tournament.

KAPALUA RESORT

Kapalua Resort is a golf and beach resort in Kapalua, Hawaii on the northwest shore of the island of Maui near Lahaina, Hawaii. It is owned by Maui Land & Pineapple Company.

Surrounded by 22,000 acres (89 km2) from the verdant mountain ridges and summit of Puʻu Kukui to lava rock bays, Kapalua Resort is set amidst two nature preserves and former pineapple fields. Three beaches and the Kapalua Adventures zipline tours and activities are nearby. In the resort are the 5-acre (20,000 m2) Kapalua Spa, and a variety of restaurants and shops, including the historic Honolua Store. Kapalua Farms sells organic produce and eggs to resort restaurants and the Maui community as well as Pineapple farm tours.

Kapalua Resort include several residential communities, from mountain slopes to beach front: the Kapalua Ritz-Carlton Hotel; several vacation home rental programs, and the Kapalua Tennis Garden complex. Other services include the Kapalua Adventure Center and the Cafe Kapalua bistro.

THE PLANTATION COURSE

The Plantation Course is unique among PGA Tour courses in several ways. It is the only course on the tour that plays to par 73; all others play to pars between 70 and 72. It is also the only course with seven holes of more than 500 yards, but at the same time is one of only two courses (Pebble Beach being the other) with six par-4s of less than 400 yards. The elevation changes on the course are starkly illustrated by looking at the 17th, 18th, and 1st holes as a set. The 17th starts atop a mountain, and the course slopes downward through the 18th, with the 1st completing the descent. These three holes play to a combined 1,691 yards for the tour professionals, with only the 18th (at 663 yards) being par-5.[5]

The Plantation Course and The Bay Course are owned by TY Management. On April 1, 2011, Troon Golf was selected to oversee the golf operations at both courses.

OUR INSIDE THE ROPES PICKS
JORDON SPEITH 28/1 WH 6PL

The worlds number 15 at these odds we had too.

He closed 2023 very well and seems to be finding some of that old magic last year where he went close to winning at all of these events below:

  • Arnold Palmer – 4TH
  • Valspar – 3RD
  • RBC Heritage – 2ND
  • Masters – 4TH
  • Memorial – 5TH
  • St Jude – 6TH

His overall game is getting better and the stats needed to shoot well around here are very positive.

Also we looked into his history around here and that seems to back up our teams input.

Previous since 2014: 2-WIN-3-9-21-13

My NAP for the first week in 2024!!!

I feel he is a great banker for the Masters as well this year.

SUNGJAE IM 40/1 PP 6PL

Next up on our list is Sungjae and we were so please to see the bookies are asleep for 2024 at this price it’s a no brainer.

Not sure how he did not win last year, we were with his team at the Farmers which was a very solid week for him, rounds two and four were disappointing for him but he felt he should have had a better week on the greens and admitted it was just one of those weeks.

We have found out that since that event he has been working a lot with a new putting coach which should see the benefits this year so the flat stick could be set on FIRE here this week.

We like what we have seem of him out in practice already and he looks like a man ready to pick up an early 2024 win.

One to watch!!

BRIAN HARMAN 80/1 WH 6PL

This could be our big priced winner to kick start 2024 folks.  In fact he has drifted from 55 to 80/1 since yesterday which is good for us.

Major Winner in 2023 winning the OPEN Championship in style saw him close 2023 vert strong also:

  • BMW – 5TH
  • Tour Champs – 25TH
  • RSM – 44TH
  • Hero – 8TH

Although his overall game is not the best reading we like the fact his scrambling is up there with the best of the PGA. Scrambling has been a key factor to those winning this event in the past so this was another reason he went in for us.

This course also is about keeping bogeys of the card as everyone will have plenty here it is about minimizing these errors and again going back to his short game and the fact he sits inside the top ten stats for bogey avoidance will be a key factor come Sunday.

LUKE LIST 100/1 SB 5PL

Of course we were looking for a good value each way pick as we do every week and this guy stood out for us as one of the best three figure odds on the market this week.

Coming off a win at the Sanderson Farms back in October showing just how much of a player he really is beating off four players in a playoff that week was pure class.

Since then he has been solid and making cuts is always a positive sign after a win.

Things that stand out for me in order for him to perform well here this week are:

  • SG OFF THE TEE – 0.641
  • DRIVING DISTANCE – 311.3
  • GIR – 70.78%
  • PAR 4 – 3.96

One to watch at this price could be lower before Thursday.
